'I Feel Happy God Made Me Different'

Adbul Edhi, bearded and slight, calls himself a "pragmatic humanist." He also has been called a communist for his belief that the rich enslave the poor. In fact, Edhi says, poverty is spreading terrorism.

"Almost all of our leaders are involved in looting and plundering, and the Taliban are a reaction to that," he says.

Bilquis Edhi says of her husband, "Everyone said I was crazy to marry him. Friends joked that while they'd go on picnics, he'd take me to graveyards."

But the man who built Pakistan's biggest social service network with no formal education says he does feel a bit crazy, and he revels in it.

"I feel happy. There's so much craftiness and cunning and lying in the world. I feel happy that God made me different from the others. I helped the most oppressed," he says.

Bilquis Edhi says three or four more people like her husband could change the destiny of Pakistan.

  1. dr mr edhi. last week we had a visit to edhi village near nooriabad. we went their as medical students under thw discipline of community medicine. the tour took all of my colleagues into a psychological trauma. we were spellbound by the situation. we visited the children ward an dthe disabled ward. also we visited the tuberculosis ward. i have many objections regarding the way of treatment.
the teachers in the children ward didnt seem to have an ample of teaching qualities. they were not acquainted properly with the way of teaching. secondly their attitude towards children was not of that of a caring person.
the children were nt properly dressed and their appearance resembled nothing than that of a street child. one thing which needs ur immediate attention is that how can these children be productive to society rather than adding to society's plight. psycologically the children seemed very unstable. one of the lady told about their habitation and we were amazed to hear tht about 400 children are accomodated in just 8 to 10 rooms. she added to our amazement and informed us tht each room holds a strength of minimum minimum 20 children. dear mr edhi we would like to have ur immediate attention towards it.
secondly when we visited the T.B ward we could not stand there even for 5 minutes. a terrible smell diffused the whole room. there was no proper hygiene there, i dnt know how u treat patients there. for describing u the plight of mental ward i dnt have appropriate sentences. i think u must go and visit there immediately because u owe a great responsibility towards what society contributes u. anticipating gud.
